Why should I change my home alarm battery every 4-5 years?

Most home alarm companies recommend that you change your battery every 4-5 years. But should I change it, even if my system is not indicating a bad battery?

The answer is YES. Your battery is sitting in an optimal environment, being maintained by your charger every day. This means that your battery is rarely cycled and not "used" a lot. That's why it is common to get up to 8-10 years of your battery before your system starts indicating low battery. So why change after 5 years when my system is still working fine?

If your battery is over 5 years old, chances are, that in an emergency it won't hold up for 48h or however long the system needs to be able to run. So changing the battery after 4-5 years is solely for your own protection.

Changing the battery is easy, but if you're having a company come out to change it for you, they are probably going to charge you an installation fee. Our 12v 5Ah (the battery can range from 4-5.4Ah) fits most systems. Some systems may take a larger battery, 7-9Ah, and these are almost always in stock. Window and door sensors may take other small coin batteries and we carry all of these in stock also! Don't be afraid to give us a call and see what we have for you!
